Absolutely delicious meal, and outstanding service. Worth every penny. They take reservations, which is really convenient, since we took our two young kids with us for our anniversary dinner. The menu is large, and has something for every one. I had the Olive Chicken, and it was cooked to perfection. The hubby had an expertly cooked steak de burgo. We topped off dinner with dessert...i must say, they serve the perfect portion after a big meal. Even the coffee was delicious. We will certainly be back more often. It had been several years since we'd been in, and we were happy to see that it's still as great as ever.

FAMILY! This place is all about family. This restaurant has been in this neighborhood for some time. You can tell when people come in and give hugs to the waitstaff. They care about the guest and the guest care about the staff. I don't think they have update anything since married with children was prime time. That doesn't mean it not good food. If it's not broke don't fix it. This place is not broke and is actually fantastic. If you want a delicious prime rib this is a good joint for it. Their menu says it could be sold out by 6 which is true. The meatballs in the vodka sauce are really good. Their manicotti is one of my favs in town. I can't tell you about the salad, because I don't bother with them in a restaurant. Especially at dinner time. I really love their burger and its in my top 5 in Des Moines. If you want it fresh and perfect order it at night. If you want to save a few bucks go in on Saturday lunch $6 gets you a burger and fry basket. Sure you can go order off the $1 menu for a better deal somewhere else, but Christopher's still uses real beef.

Went there for a birthday party awhile back. This is a great place to people watch because all the regulars know the staff and owners and the owner went from table to table greeting friends and customers. The waiter we had was superb, he was attentive and listened when you spoke. He was very helpful when the kitchen staff messed up my order and treated us right and took care of the situation in a very prompt, smart manner. Ordered a nice gin martini that was very, very tasty and I ordered a pasta dish that was already vegan on the menu. What a nice treat. This place is HUGE and full of life. You WILL spend a significant amount of time here and it is not a place to grab a quick bite. I'd say 2 hours probably. It's pretty great.

Tonight I ordered one of the signature dishes, the chicken parm, and it did not disappoint. The waitress recommended half red, half white sauce, which was an excellent touch. I also had the chocolate cake with ice cream and raspberry sauce, which was a little slice of heaven. My date had the Gorgonzola alfredo with beef--also a tasty choice. Overall, excellent service and cuisine. Can't wait to go back for more.

We love Christophers. Not only because it's in our Beaverdale neighborhood but because the food is consistently good. It's reminiscent of the old dinner clubs of the 60's and I've been a patron since about that time! Steaks and pasta are good, great sandwiches and rings if you want something lighter and the pizza is our Favorite in town!! We always ask for our favorite waiter Gary too- he's the best in town too!!
After hearing numerous people recommend this place, I finally tried it out. The decor is a bit dated, and the wait staff was a lil' older, but super friendly and kind. The hostess lady was all smiles, which makes a huge difference in the atmosphere and welcome created... The dining crowd was also older - like, senior citizens, but they were cool and I usually trust their judgment - they've been around to know what's good, lol. My Chicken Caesar Salad was nothing extraordinary - in fact, the chicken had cracked pepper bits all over, which took over the flavor, and also got stuck in my teeth. :( The dressing was nothing special, but fine... I wanted to be blown away by this place, but was underwhelmed.

Old/new favorite. We used to dine here years ago & kind of forgot about it. Brought our grand daughter's family here after helping them move. Perfect relaxing, great meal. Our waitress was super busy, but with a busboys help, we got great service. The food, from the soup or salad on to the main course...fantastic. All fice of us, including a 3 year old, loved our meals. Plan to be back!

Love my little neighborhood bar and restaurant! Great food, drinks and people. The Parmesan Tilapia is to die for as are the onion rings, bruschetta, pizza and, of course, their infamous chicken Parmesan. And, bad day, Renee will take care of you. Count on it! You're a friend she has yet to meet.

The pan fried chicken is great and well worth the wait. The ribs were perfect fall off the bone and the sauce has a wonderful flavor. The lasagna is some of the best I have had. Great flavor and the right amount of cheese. The staff has always been very accommodating to our requests. It is the way "dining out" is meant to be.

Made a reservation on short notice for 30 people, and we were pleasantly surprised at the service and the food. Plentiful portions were served by attentive staff. every dish was rated outstanding by everyone who enjoyed the meal, and considered authentic. My favorite was the lasagna, which I will order again. We would recommend and plan to visit again next time we are in Des Moines.

Last Saturday night we celebrated our Parent's 50th Wedding Anniversary at Christopher's and we could not have selected a better place! From a sentimental point of view, our Grandparents used to bring us to Christopher's as small kids. We would order Shirley Temple's and have popcorn in the bar area while we waited for the table. On Saturday our extended Family enjoyed creating new "family memories" at Christopher's. As usual the food fully delivered! And we had the best waiter ~ York. He truly made the celebration even more special! Thank you, York.....and Thank you, Christopher's! So glad you are still with us and going strong!

Calimari and pizza were very good. The service was friendly but extremely slow. Forgot our salads but comped dessert, we almost refused the free dessert because we knew it would take forever. The dude also touched me numerous times which is awkward and unprofessional.

My husband and I try to go to local establishments, but seem to have a "curse" where we leave un-impressed, for one reason or another. We chose to go to Christopher's for New Years, as it came highly recommended by everyone. I made a reservation for 8 pm. When we came in, we were told they were running about 30 min late and they'd page us. We gave the hostess our name, and assumed she checked us on the list. We sat at the bar, patiently waiting to hear our name, for about 45 minutes. At which point a bartender took pity on us and offered to go check on our reservation. She returned to ask us to spell our name again and to confirm that we did in fact call. A few minutes later, the hostess called for us and while leading us to the table - told us that our name was not on the list. She admitted remembering speaking to me on the phone, but somehow our name didn't make it on the list. So when we checked in - she didn't even look for our name, because then she would've known we weren't there. So we could've sat at the bar for 3 hours and not hear our name called. That was really annoying and not a good way to start our dinner, which was now at 9 pm instead of 8. Service was prompt and our waitress was very polite. I ordered the new year's special - a steak with asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes. A pricey dish but i knew it'd be worth it. When it arrived, I saw a baked potato instead of the garlic mash. When i pointed that out - I was told they ran out of garlic mashed hours ago. Well, that information would've been useful at the time of our order - I probably would've chosen something else. I don't think it was good customer service to not mention that. So with that '2nd strike' - we were under-whelmed by the dinner, event though the food was delicious. Maybe New Year's was not the right night to go, but I feel that for a restaurant that's been in business for what looked like 100 years - they should have their stuff together. Not sure if we'll be back.

Since moving to Beaverdale, we've quickly become regulars at Christophers. We always *consider* new/different places, but when we're hungry and want a guaranteed great meal (which is pretty much all the time), we always end up going back here because we know they can't get it wrong! Boursin mushrooms, onion rings, cheeseburgers, pan-fried chicken, french fries, the spaghetti and meatballs with red sauce (has a bite) - seriously - all of it has been wonderful! Even the Appletini (which I was not expecting to impress, because I've never had a great one) was super tart and delicious! The hostess is so genuinely happy that it'd be a real challenge to NOT smile when you enter the restaurant. All the servers we've had have been equally as wonderful. It's a no frills, friendly place to eat that is always satisfying. There's really not much more you can ask out of a family-owned, neighborhood joint! I sincerely hope they will remain there for many years to come :)

Our last dinner at Christopher's was not up to the level we expected. Granted, it was packed on a Saturday night, but that's SOP for the restaurant. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, but things went wrong. I don't know where the miscommunication occurred, but the martini that was supposed to be on the rocks was rockless, and the steak that was supposed to be medium rare was in danger of mooing. However, the calamari and Boursin mushrooms were excellent, and the Lemon Chicken got good marks. And a friend was glad to get a small order of baby back ribs. More about that steak: I've been sampling Steak de Burgo at every restaurant that features it. The sauce varies from chef to chef, but it's basically butter, wine and garlic with herbs and spices that each chef prefers. In addition, some add cream, some make it thick, some thin. But the essential flavor is butter and garlic. Not so that night. Butter and cream dominated, not much else. So far, my votes for de Burgo go to The Latin King and Johnny's Italian Steakhouse. (For more info on Steak de Burgo, check Wikipedia. It has a pretty good entry on the entree.) (sorry, I couldn't resist that)

Classic dinner club. Dark, relaxed bar. White tableclothes and a warm dining area. We had the bruschetta for an app. 6 pieces for $6.5, not bad at all, plus they were very good. Salad's came next, they were fresh and crisp. My wife had the scallops for about $20, and I had the linguini for $13. Both were excellent! The scallops had a wonderful sauce to them and the linguini was pretty spicy, exactly what I was expecting. They only get 4 stars because after dinner we had to wait about 10 minutes before the waiter paid us attention. Also, he didn't box the mashed potatoes with the scallops which were part of the meal. Why wouldn't you box the potatoes!?! Check for coupons at restaurant.com , otherwise expect to pay about $80 for 2 people if you get drinks at the bar beforehand as well as with your meal.

Awesome thin crust pizza - 5 stars. The drink specials are great, and the bar tender was fantastic and professional. All around great service, wonderful atmosphere, and an awesome meal. The bathroom is shared with another business, and it was out of order. There was another unisex bathroom in the back of the restaurant, and there was a line for it. If the other bathroom is in service next time (and clean), this place gets a 5-star for sure.

It has been a few years since we dined at Christopher's. I remembered having perfectly cooked steak and great tasting calamari. Service was excellent.

This place is AWESOME! AMAZING pizza and onion rings for one thing, but their whole menu and GREAT! Italian/American foods that are always good, fresh and hot. The bar has a great atmosphere and you can order off the menu in there if you'd prefer. Great for dining alone at the bar and enjoying great company of the bartenders and patrons. Desserts are awesome, too! Sunday Brunch is GREAT too and the first Sunday of each month they include prime rib! GREAT value at an upscale FAMILY owned restaurant. Can't say enough good things about this place - try it and you'll quickly become a regular.

Went to Christopher's a few weeks ago with another couple. The food itself was decent. The dining room was kind of like walking into a cave but it was nice. My steak was cooked perfect. My friend had to send hers back but they brought another in a just a couple of minutes. They were friendly and good service. water glass was never empty. I would go again and recommend others to try it.

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Lounge has a fun atmosphere and fantastic staff. Large menu selection and weekly features. We had a assortment of appetizers and wine. Large portions and fair price. Look forward to going back to enjoy more if the menu.

A first class restaurant in Des Moines the last 50 years. Ron and Renee will greet you with great service and great food. I've been going there since they opened.

(5)Alyssa C.
If you want good Italian I would recommend giving this place a try! This is a family owned Italian restaurant on Hickman. I've been to Christopher's twice and had wonderful service each time! They try to make you feel at home each time you visit. The food was delicious as well. I had the chicken velouté and it was cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes were so creamy and garlicy. I couldn't stop eating my dish! To end off tag night we had to try tiramisu. There was not enough alcohol for my taste but it was still very tasty! Again try this place!!! It is delicious!

This restaurant has great food and goes out of its way to provide excellent service. I can see why it's been a favorite of Des Moines for a long time.

(5)Mary G.
(5)Bill D.
(5)Wendy H.
1st time customer who will be back. Good service, with awesome food. I had Chicken Soto which was wonderful. Boyfriend had Chicken Marsala and he said it was good. Also had appetizer of stuffed mushrooms that were great. Highly recommend!!
(5)Michael M.

(4)Joe D.

(4)Lim K.
It has been a few years since we dined at Christopher's. I remembered having perfectly cooked steak and great tasting calamari. When we went back recently we ordered the same thing along with grilled chicken salad. Everything was very good, especially the medium rare new york strip was tender and delicious. Service was excellent.

This is now our favorite place. We haven't been disappointed in any of our visits. Excellent food, excellent service, really reasonable prices. It is hard to pick a favorite and we will keep coming back until we have tried everything.

(5)Ricky T.

A Beaverdale institution. I have always had great food here. Love the Easter and Mother's Day brunch buffet. Great classic Italian food.
